August and Everything After

Whew! We've had a busy last few weeks. What's happened??

• Micah is zooming around by himself now. It's so fun to see him clipping around our upstairs, checking things out, chasing John, or trying to find out what his mom is doing. We still have quite a few wipe-outs in a day, but he's getting tougher and we don't usually have very many tears.
• John has decided to focus on climbing and jumping in the last little while. He particularly likes to jump off our bed, which is pretty high for a little guy, and pretty scary for his mom. He did amazingly at the playground today: something was too far away for him to jump to, so he leaned forward and "fell" so he could get his arms and chest on it. Then he would scootch forward. What a smart little guy!
• We've been on two camping weekends. We have slept horribly for the most part (except John, who sleeps like a rock most nights), but had a really great time. I think we're probably done camping for the summer, unless we suddenly get a strong urge to go again.
• Micah has decided he likes my cooking again, which is making life easier for me. He actually eats quite a bit, and is getting good at communicating what he wants. He waves his hand in front of his mouth if I offer him something he doesn't want, and then points to what he does want when I take the spoon away.
• Speaking of communicating, Micah is definitely saying "bye-bye" now. We think he might be saying various "b" words, like ball, boo, bath...but we're not sure if he's just mimicking. He can tell us what a puppy, a horse, and a duck say, which is quite cute. Also, there's a little noise he makes while pointing that we're pretty sure means "what's that?" but it doesn't really translate into letters.
• We've had a few visitors in the last while - there were ten people in the house for a couple of nights, and then my family decended for my brother's wedding and we had 8 people in our wee house for the weekend. It was all pretty fun. Yes, Kerrie finally got married. It was a lot of fun and we're pretty excited for them.
