In the absence of John and Amy, I'm afraid I will post more about the railing. I clear-coated it today and it seems good. I'm really impressed with the stain I got - it matches very closely to the existing railing. Anyways, the house doesn't smell too much anymore, and I even swept the kitchen floor.
I haven't eaten much 'real' food since Amy left - I have only made about 2 more dirty dishes and I haven't even had to unload the dishwasher. :-)

the only problem with my old college life would be the supermodels hassling me non stop. that can get pretty annoying after a while....
