I thought I would add a little note about using the comments. I'm not sure how many people still read this blog, but the comment section is there for you to interact with other readers and the authors - and we would love to hear from you :-)
To add a comment - just click on the comments link and type away. You don't have to create an account - just select the radio button to use 'Other' as your identity - and then you can type in whatever name you want... I made a sample comment to show you what I mean.
Amy is still at her parent's place and I'm working on the railing. If I had the camera, I would show you some pictures - the railing is now up and screwed in on all sides. I ended up using my ratchet set to tighten the screws - because the power drills weren't strong enough! Technically I suppose the half inch drill would have been strong enough, but to get enough power, I had to be going so fast that the wood and screws were getting really torn up when it slipped. Last night I sanded and used wood filler all over it and tonight I plan to do another sanding and then the first coat of stain.
The house is a disaster - sawdust and wood chips all over the place, and it smells like glue. It's quite fun :-)

You need your wife and kid back home. That was a lot of talk about wood filler!! And really is the request for comments just a lonely cry for help?
everything you say is true.
I need them to come home - I talk too much about wood filler - and these comments are the only human interaction i've had in the last 5 hours...
In other news - I finished sanding and staining the railing. Next step is to clear-coat it...
All right...well I be waiting with breathless anticipation for the rest of the Story of the Might Railing.
ps...."cam the creat"?
Hi from Mom! This is my first attempt at posting a comment. If it works -- who knows what I'll do in the future! Glad you're getting that railing done. I wondered if Amy said "I won't be back until it's finished!" :-) That would be motivation ... :-) Are you taking time off work to finish it? or is it an after work job? Keep at it!
mom! good commenting work :-)
I haven't taken time off work - but I've worked 2-4 hours a night since Amy left. Last night I timed myself - it took about 5 minutes per spindle (22 in all) and then more time than that for the railing and newel posts. It's fun work though - it keeps my hands busy but my mind can wander...
