a certifiable genius

John's been learning lots of things recently. We've caught him making the signs for 'thank you', and 'milk', and he's even started reading books on his own. By 'reading books on his own', I mean that I've seen him get a book off the shelf of baby books, put it on the coffee table and start flipping through it himself. The book he likes the best is 'I can clap' - which has pictures of babies clapping, eating, washing and waving their hands. One time I watched John flip through the book till he found the page with a baby clapping, and then John clapped his hands. Then he flipped to the page with a baby waving, and he waved at the book. I guess we've read him the book enough times that he knows the appropriate actions for at least some of the pages :-) I believe we have a video of him clapping at the book, but not waving (the waving page is harder to turn too because it's near the end). He's getting much better at walking and it's fun to watch him learning and becoming more communicative and aware.
